Irish Judge Síofra O’Leary is the first female President of the ECtHR. She will take up office on November 1, 2022. Election of Vice-Presidents and two new Sections Presidents

The European Court of Human Rights has today elected Síofra O’Leary (Ireland) as its new President.
Síofra O’Leary is the first female President of the European Court of Human Rights.

Síofra O’Leary succeeds Robert Spano (Iceland). She will take up office on 1 November 2022.

ELECTION OF VICE-PRESIDENTS AND NEW SECTION PRESIDENTS 

The European Court of Human Rights has today elected two new Vice-Presidents of the Court –
Judges Georges Ravarani (Luxembourg) and Marko Bošnjak (Slovenia). They will take up their duties
on 1 November 2022.

The Court has also today elected two new Section Presidents – Judges Pere Pastor Vilanova
(Andorra) and Arnfinn Bårdsen (Norway). They will also take up their duties on 1 November 2022.
